It is with great pleasure that I extend my strong support to the International Cultural Diplomacy Network (ICDN).
As we navigate an increasingly interconnected world, cultural diplomacy has never been more important.

In 2019, the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade released its landmark report, Cultural Diplomacy at the Front Stage of Canada’s Foreign Policy, calling for a comprehensive strategy to strengthen cultural diplomacy as a pillar of Canada’s foreign policy. The report recognized that meaningful international relations extend well beyond traditional politics and economics; they are also rooted in our shared human experiences, arts, heritage and values.

In today’s global landscape, the ICDN’s work is especially timely. As nations become more interconnected and global challenges demand unprecedented cooperation, we need forward-looking platforms that foster mutual understanding.

Our objective is clear: to bridge cultures and advance trade. By strengthening cultural ties, we lay the groundwork for stronger economic partnerships, innovation and long-term prosperity. Culture is not merely a reflection of who we are; it is also a powerful bridge that builds trust, opens doors to new markets and brings nations closer together.

I am proud to serve as Honorary Chair of the International Cultural Diplomacy Network and remain committed to advancing this important mission. Together, we can harness the power of culture to strengthen international relationships, expand economic opportunities and foster a more united and prosperous world.
